New Hall of Famers

Mattingly is not a hall of famer. Not a chance. Omar vizquel should be in to me and gets no love. Best shortstop glove ever. Mattingly was the best PLAYER in game for 5 years but unfortunately back killed him.

IMO, he was best 1B in MLB for about 10 years.

My personal criteria is to compare him to his peers st the time.

ASG appearances are good way to do it.

Eddie Murray was the best 1B of their shared era. Clark, Palmeiro, McGriff, McGwire, Guerrero, and a couple others are all guys who had comparable or longer peaks to Mattingly in that era. Mattingly really only had a 4 year great peak before his back went out.

All Star games are a popularity contest and nothing more.

If Peter Rose should be in the HOF. Then Joe Jackson should be too.

Rose needs to go into the HOF. He had a lifetime ban from baseball....he ain't alive....PUT HIM IN!

Rose signed an agreement that put him on the Permanently Ineligible list. It wasn't then and isn't now a "lifetime ban". He should never be inducted to the Hall. His accomplishments are there but he shouldn't be.

Vizquel above Osborne Earl Smith for best shortstop glove ever? Fire take indeed. I don't even have Vizquel in my top 5 and he's not HOF level at all. I don't think Mattingly is a Hall of Famer (Hall of Fame talent but not enough longevity) but I'd put him in before Vizquel.
