Sometimes the mail days are small. That isn't a bad thing.

Couldn't quite get them all in, so one more item.

View attachment 362196Banty Red custom card of Dixie Walker. Not shown as a Dodger unfortunately, although I wish he had been. Lefty O'Doul is in the actual 1933 Delong set and the only Dodger representative of the very small set. The cartoonish features of this set captured my interest as a kid and it's always been one of my favorites from vintage times. They are not easy cards to find on a bargain budget, so prepare to spend. I have maybe a half dozen of the originals and this was the only Banty I have been able to win. They have been quite popular, selling for some big $

Did you ever see the remake Topps did of these back in 2007 called Flashback Fridays?

Garvey /5. This differs from a similar card also /5, but those had "inside" bat pieces and these have "outside" bat pieces.

Garvey insert /25. I have been meaning to comment on serial numbered cards for a bit now and this one makes sense to use as an example. When serial numbers first graced cards, they were in the 1000s-10,000s, often in the 100,000s for weird oddball sets that were taking advantage of the late 80s boom. The Donruss Elits and the UD Autographs were some of the first and 10,000 copies seemed like the impossible, and essentially they nearly were.

print runs have adjusted since and cards numbered to 100 copies or less are now very commonplace, often not bringing much more than a few bucks on the secondary market, depending on the player and set.

I am still amazed that you can find a card with a print run of only 25 copies (or less) for under $10. Are there really not that many people who want copies? I am looking forward to seeing how low serial numbered cards fair in the market in a decade or two from now. Will they come around again or will they forever be forgotten to the massive amount of cards being printed and the wide array of choices? Time will tell.

Tanner Scott - Breaking a rule here, since he has not had his debut yet, but the Dodgers picked him up in the off season. I will assume he plays at least a game for them. If for whatever reason he never makes it into a game as a Dodger, he still fits into my ASG collection too.

Penn Emblem lot. Showcasing this here, because Garvey was in the lot. However, the only one I actually needed was Andre Dawson and the final price reflected this. Down to 15 and a scarce Rose variation I would conveniently not count if it came to that being the last one i needed for completion. There are 104 known unique player patches. 100 on most published checklists. A few variants (like the Rose blue border seen here) drive the master checklist a bit higher to around 106, maybe more.

I rarely see one I need and when I do, they normally sell for more than I want to pay. I am missing a couple huge ones and even the commons are seldom seen. I don't expect that I will ever complete this set.

This is exciting (to me). A lot of 14 (13 actually) signed 1940s Brooklyn Dodgers photo pack photos. The Harry Taylor is "signed" but he wrote a personalization and his team/yeas and sandwiched them around his facsimile signature on the photo. Jeez, do all the work so just sign the damn thing already!

Almost cool despite lack of logo, a Leaf tribute to 1991 Leaf, in green and numbered to /6.
Garvey 6.png

Lastly, a cheapo minor TTM/IP Jose Gonzalez

Been taking some risks on mid/large size lots of items. This one worked out well with each photo averaging around $1.50 across 47 total in the lot. I actually needed 7-8 or so, which is amazing since I was not aware of several in the lot that were not shown.

This was kind of a lot, but just the two items. The BIN price was very fair, not that I needed either.

This is what keeps collecting exciting for me. This lot showed up with a very reasonable BIN and I couldn't hit it fast enough. They key piece for me, a 1977 TV Times newspaper insert. I am so happy that people saved this type of thing so that I could buy it 48 years later!
Garvey TV Guide Dodgers lot.png

Other items included a 77 Photo album with the detachable collector player photos, a Line Drive newsletter I didn't have, a group sales brochure that features Garvey that I didn't have & a couple team photo souvenirs (they are like greeting cards with team ohoto & facsimile autos). $20 well spent!

Nice! Those types of things you expect to show up right when they’re released, and then pretty much never again—let alone 48 years later. Great find.

Ditto. Most "odd ball" stuff is a lot more interesting than the mainstream efforts. To most, it might not have the value (or whatever), but it's got a lot more character than most of the stuff that Topps puts out.

Absolutely. It also adds an element to “the thrill of the chase” in that you then get to try to figure out whatever the heck it is.

The below is also a newspaper giveaway, part of a series of Tampa Bay players inserted into The Tampa Tribune. I saw a number in 2006 when they were issued, but hardly any since. Definitely oddball, but definitely fun.

Lofton & Outman /99. Green /50

I feel like this might be a different version from the one I have, but it could also just be the light? I don't track new Garvey checklists anymore and although I have a massive Garvey collection, I feel better and better each time I say that I have let go of the need for everything. It is liberating!

Teoscar is /50 mini from a rip card I believe, but shown as a Mariner. I don't mind, as I have a soft spot for the M's in my heart.

Trying not to duplicate, but still am from time to time. i think this may be the 3rd parallel of this very card I landed, including a 1/1 verison (probably 1 of 15 different colored 1/1s!).

This one is /6
Garvey Cey Russell 6.png

I am fairly certain that not a single card maker has ever made a card of the famous Dodgers infield of 1972-1982, all together on one No base, no inserts, no autographs. Isn't that ridiculous and a huge missed opportunity? UD made an 8x10 commemorative sheet in the 90s. That, I believe, is the closest we have come. Should have tossed in Lopes and made history!

Ethier 99/99

I think I saw same card, 1/99 just listed, but at several X what i got this one for. Would be cool to bookend it, but never cared enough about that to pay premiums. Pass.

Came across a lot of (5) Dodgers HOF 8x10s and decided to chase it. It didn't come cheap, but 2 other larger lots did from the same seller and overall, 24 signed 8x10s arrived today for less than $8.50 each! The photos were scanned individually, so didn't want to assemble all of them across several posts, so these are the top 5 highlights for me:

Darien Nunez Jersey. I still need his autograph for the Dodger collection. Originally from Cuba. His 6 MLB game career seems to be over at this point, although he is still shown as plying in Mexico on BBRef. This may be a very tough one to find.
