$175.00 should get you a nice auto in the color you want without him purposely smudging it. That's a bunch of BS.

Depends on the situation. If he's only signing for an hour or two and there is a zoo of people wanting items signed at $175/per, then I can see a single color/single type pen so he's not futzing around trying to get the ink color and pen type straight when signing someone's item.

If there is only mild interest at $175/per and he's staying until the last paid fan's item is signed, then maybe he can afford a few more secs of time per item to keep track of blue/black/red inks and sharpie/staedtler pens.

From what I have seen...most paid signings are pretty orchestrated. They only sell a certain amount of tickets so that they have plenty of time to get through everyone. And I have also heard they can make deals with the player where it might be a minimum of 2 hours(for example) but not to exceed 4 hours(another hypothetical example) where the first two hours are guaranteed to be paid to the athlete but each extra hour(lets say hours 3 and 4) are paid for on an as needed basis. That way ...lets say it takes 4 hours to get through 500 people. And you have 500 auto tickets for sale. You might expect enough people for at least a minimum of two hours worth. But if more people show up than that...you can still cover your rear(as the promoter) and guarantee that the athlete will stay and continue to sign autographs.

Some athletes will even just ask for a time slot of 2 straight hours and ask to be guaranteed to be paid for the two hours whether they are actually signing the whole full time or not. Each athlete is different. But anyone charging that much for an auto should be intelligent enough to handle the crowd and make sure they are somewhat happy with the product. I am still of the belief that one day...Willie Mays and his signing habits will come back to bite Tristar on the rear when the wrong guy gets ticked off and the wrong piece of memorabilia gets messed up. $300 might not be a big deal if you are getting him on a ball or bat and he messes it up a little. But if he messed up a multi signed item or something vintage...now the price just skyrocketed when you are talking about possible damages. Now I'm not a lawyer and have no idea if it would hold up but if the wrong person got peeved...I do believe they would push that envelope.

Don im glad that you like the card. The magizine he had already signed it the moves his hand over the A and touched it with his pinky. From what i have heard from other people he was smudging alot.... I have met him every year since 2001 and have never received a smudged autograph. I had a Kings and Their Castles poster handed him silver to sign it he set it down and signed in blue. Before i even had the chance to say NOOOOOOOOOOOOO it was already signed. It is absoulutely insane that i hand a guy money for 3 autographs and he messed up 2/3. But you got an awesome card and it looks great. The hitting clinic was awesome its a great opportunity to get personal tips from Albert about hitting. The autograph he signed for me on that looked really nice. Thanks Darron Hicks.

Lol, how'd he do it on purpose?

He is known to do that more then often. My friend who got the magazine watched it as he went out of his way to smear it as he handed it back to him. Thats on top of the fact that he refused to sign it in the color he asked him to do it in. 175$ should get you the color you want, do you agree??[/quote:2bu0gxkh]
He did the Magizine in the right color my poster was wrong though.

If Pujols smudges autos at PAID signings, he's an *******. I understand smudging an auto he signs for free at the ballpark - he's giving out a free auto, ruining the resale value is understandable.

But at a PAID signing? And refusing to use a certain color of pen for people who are giving you a ton of money?

Pujols sounds like a total dick.

Has anybody's sig changed over the past 10 years like Albert's has? Look at the 2001 autos, and anything since then. The "A" is never the same, the "P" changes loop size all the time, the "S" has morphed, too. Add a "5", now he puts a cross on there, never the same sig twice.

I'm lucky enough to have a pack pulled one, and two IPs--from 2002!

They don't care if you complain once you hand money over the table and the pen touches the item you just wasted a sizeable sum of money to have a million dollar athlete ruin something you are spending a lot of money on. Both things he messed up were already musial signed (75 each) that means on my kings poster I was in it 310 dollars you know how many chores a 15 yr old has to do to get that kind of money.

Maybe Pujols smudges the autograph on purpose as a personal symbol of "authentication"? :benson:

Or maybe he just likes being a dick. I dunno.
At 175 a Sig I'd rather think he was being a Dick they make stickers for authenticity purposes but I wouldn't even need that because I watched him sign it 2 foot in front of me

Is this a joke? You have no right to whine and complain, if you didn't do so at the event. If he didn't sign your item the way you wanted, that's on you to make sure you take care of it with the promoter before leaving. Saying "well they wouldn't have done anything, they don't care," is ridiculous, and I guess it fits the person here if you are saying you are 15 years old. It's clear you had no idea what you are doing. Most of the people got their items signed correctly, the way they wanted, with no smudges or whatever.

Wait if you are saying I deserved a smudged auto you sir are an idiot and yes you should take that personally. I have been getting autographs since I was 5 years old I'm almost positive I know what I'm doing. If you don't believe me quiz me. It was a 175 dollar magazine not to mention 75 for the musial. I don't carry 2 of those around with me. My poster was 235 dollars and once again I don't carry 2 of those around. We also asked for him to sign a hat on the bill he signed it on the side and refused to sign in black. Idc if he was signing a grain of rice it should not be smudged. I Am 15 by the way. Another thing if a drooling 6 month old baby wants something signed it should be a nice autograph.

What's with the name calling? You obviously didn't know what you were doing because you didn't voice your complaint to the promoter there. That is your responsibility if your item is messed up to talk with the promoter to try and get it fixed. You didn't do any of that, so you have no reason to complain at this point.

In Pujol's defense...he is kind of in a stressful situation right now, trying both to turn the St. Louis fans against the team AND make sure he gets him 300 million dollar contract. It's a tough life.

I am just so effing mad.

I agree with this i think they need to get him signed. This signing will not make me any less of a fan of the guy, i mean he does a ton for charity. All im saying is 235 for him not to use my pen and 175 for him to smudge a magizine and 235 (i think) for him to sign a hat in a blue pen exactly opposite of where we asked him to do it. Also dont ask him to sign a seatback or a pair of Rare shoes (250 pairs) becuase he will not do it.

Pujols on a multi-signed piece, for $235 is a steal. Retail that would be $400-500. Not only that, but this isn't an autograph signing with Tristar or Steiner. This was an under-the-table signing for a batting cage company. Big difference there, and as with any promotional signing not done by a company or a person conducting the signing who knows what they are doing, the expectations are not there.

You made the mistake of putting your item down first before specificing what color you wanted, and where. That's a rookie mistake. You also didn't go back and try to get a refund or anything, again another rookie mistake. Chalk it up for future events, but don't complain when it's partially your fault.

dude, it does not matter who is putting on the show. If a company is charging 235 dollars for the guy to sign your piece, then for the love of god have the athlete sign it in the color the guy wants. END OF STORY. Pujols is a dick. It's a rookie mistake for a company not to have someone handing pujols the pens to use. I myself would have ripped the poster off the table. But the point is complaining, refunds, all that comes after the fact, your paying ALOT of money for your item to be signed then the athlete should suck it up and exspend 3 seconds of energy picking up a different colored pen. IT's as simple as that.

One other thing, somewhat related:

Remember the controversy surrounding the 2010 Pujols Triple Threads autos that looked "off?" A bunch of people thought they were fake.

Big Mac's Pujols auto is a near perfect match to the TT autos. The IP auto is 100% real.

Makes me think a lot of people were dead wrong about the authenticity of the TT sigs
