Surprised to be starting this one again, on 9/3, although it was the first mail day of September.

This card is a little worse than it looks to the naked eye, as it appears someone left it out to fade. Damn shame too. Gold /5

Need to get this pile out of the way since I have more incoming, including some exciting stuff (for me), so I'm just going to be lazy and scan them in the filthy holders they came in.


1999 UD Textbook Excellence Triple 050/100 Ben Grieve...for whatever reason I like the tiers UD did for their insert sets that year; Eric Chavez and Grieve were in several sets, I have all of the Chavezs that aren't super-rare but still need a couple more Grieves. 1994 Classic 4-Sport $4 Phone Card Grieve...I just started going for the $2 through $5 cards this year; Dilfer was in this set and I can remember how hard one or two of them were to find, real glad to grab a $4 one but I still need $3 and $5. 1989 Our Own Tea Canseco and McGwire discs...assists with my continuing effort to clean up my food set needs from this era. I think the only other similar discs I need are 1989 Key Food and Weis Market McGwires.


Top row is team set completers: 2000 SkyBox Star Rubies (not Star Rubies EXTREME/50, still need a couple of those), 2003 Donruss Team Heroes Glossy (took a long time to track down Canseco, had the rest a while ago), and 2004 UD Vintage Black and White (sneaky tough set). Also a couple of 2003 Leaf Certified parallels: Mirror Emerald/5 Joe Valentine (about halfway there with the team set but that's a long-shot) and Mirror Blue Auto/5 Zito. Lastly 2002 UD Ballpark Idols Bronze/100 is now another set from that era where the only card I need is David Justice, after picking up a Miguel Tejada.


Some 2024 Topps Chrome goodies. You can tell the card market has really fallen from its peak a few years back since is the first recent printing plate I've picked up in years. Not something I'm really after but I'll put in a cheap bid if I like the set. Got the JJ Bleday for $13.50 shipped.


Lastly some 2024 Topps parallels, with a 2023 Elite Jacob Wilson auto that snuck in there.

Couple in the mail yesterday

Trent Dilfer/Terrell Suggs dual auto 3/5 out of 2023 Absolute. I also have a /10 version...there are also supposed to be /25, /35, /50, and /75 variations but I can't recall seeing any of those and the set's been out for a while. So who knows.


Big time '90s pickup, 1996 Ultra Series 2 Golden Prospects Gold Medallions of Steve Cox and Tony Batista. These were only in Series 2 hobby packs, 1:720 insertion rate (one in THIRTY boxes!) with a 15-card set. Very very tough to find. There have been a pair for sale on eBay for about $90 each for a while now...finally some came up for auction and I paid less than $30 for the pair. It paid to wait in this case. Now to work on the McGwire HR Kings and Thunderclap Gold Medallions from the same set, which will cost me a lot more.


Team set completers: 2020 Bowman Sterling Refractors/199, 2017 Bowman Chrome Purple Refractors/250, 1979 Hostess, and 2003 Playoff Prestige Xtra Points Green/150.


Some '90s to mid-'00s stuff: 1999 Revolution Red/299 Ben Grieve, 2004 Topps Chrome Update Xfractors Dan Putnam 01/20, and 2006 UD Special F/X Red/50 Mike Rouse (need 6 more to finish off that large set).


2020 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractor Auto/50 Hogan Harris and 2020 Topps Independence Day/76 Jesus Luzardo RC.


Some recent goodies. The 2024 Topps Chrome Gold Refractors look nice this year, with proper etching. Kudos to Topps for not being quite as lazy.

I really liked those Golden Prospect cards, too bad there wasn't much fire power to the set. Wilton Guerrero is the lone dodger appearance.

Yeah the Series 2 checklist is seriously weak. The Series 1 cards are way easier to find and a lot more bland-looking but it's got Jeter in the set along with Johnny Damon and Jason Giambi at least.


Let's start out this post with a super sweet '90s card, 1999 E-X Century Essential Credentials Now Ben Grieve 41/81.


Some team set completers: 1997 New Pinnacle Museum Collection Canseco actually completes all of the Pinnacle Museum A's parallels from the original '90s run. 2023 Topps '88 All-Star Autograph Canseco completes all of the A's '88 autos from Series 1, 2 and Update. 2012 Bowman Chrome Draft Addison Russell Blue Refractor Auto/150 finishes off all the A's Blues from the various Bowman Chrome series that year, and it was less than half the price I paid for his base auto back in the day, a BGS 9.5 no less. 2011 Topps Red/245 and 2021 Stadium Club Chrome Refractors complete as well.


I like the Carew/Kruk/Chavez triple jersey card, but...what on earth do those three players have in common? Such a weird combo, but that made me like it even more. 2001 Elite Status Jason Hart 21/37 gets me all of the A's from that set numbered higher than 10...there are a few more numbered /3, /4, and /8 that I'd like to get but I'll call the "reasonably achievable" portion of the set complete. Lastly a 2008 Heritage Chrome Black Refractor and 2000 Pacific Emerald, still have a little ways to go on those 2 sets.


I've been trying to finish up all the A's magazine cards from the late '80s and early '90s and my needs are now down to 6. These two were some of the harder to locate ones.


My 2019 Topps Independence Day needs are now down to 2. I still need 3 2017 Bowman Chrome Gold Refractors...Austin Beck retired last month after stinking on the Dodgers' AA team then getting injured. So I was able to pick up somebody's "investment" cheap.


Some 2023 and 2024 goodies. The 2024 Topps Chrome Lightboard Refractors look pretty sweet with the huge Oakland logo. Since it will be the only "Oakland" year for that set I think I'll try to complete it. On the challenging side since it looks like they are 1:280 retail packs. Long-term project!

Murray has gotten lots of love from the card makers as a Dodger lately. I like it, despite the fact he was only there briefly. Orioles fans are probably not happy.

Couple of really cool pickups for 2 areas of my collection:

1) 1935 Browns lineup card. The players in the lineup are not particularly memorable, but the player/manager, who signed the bottom right corner is. Rogers Hornsby was one of the few managers who are in the Hall of Fame, and who I've seen a lineup card with their signature that I did not own. Was able to check that one off.

2) Vintage photo of Integrator, former ***** League great and Hall-of-Famer Willard Brown in his very brief time playing on the Browns.

Finished the week out strong. Doerr is readily available in any form but his prime pieces are not. I was a little angry at myself for missing a really nice piece while at the gym last week. This one popped up for less than half so I smashed the BIN. Happy with the Pick up

Some older stuff...2003 Leaf Certified Mirror Emerald Autograph Joe Valentine 01/05, 1996 Leaf Limited Lumberjacks Sample McGwire, 2000 Revolution Red Terrence Long 23/63.


Some Newer stuff...I think Ruiz was the last 2023 Topps Chrome Rookie Auto I needed; there are a couple more on the checklist I don't have but I've never seen them around so I don't think they made base autos for those players.


Team set completers: 1998 Pacific Invincible Platinum Blue, 2005 Donruss Champions Impressions Red/250, and the biggest one, 2004 Elite Status. Only 6 cards in the team set (5 if you don't count Keith Foulke, who is pictured with the A's but the card says Red Sox) but almost all of them are quite low-numbered. Since the Chavez is /3, it's very possible I have the only completed team set. Oh and bonus, Hudson is the uniform number, 15/15. Here's the rest of them:

I had something similar happen back in 09 on the old beckett message boards. Trade agreed on. I mailed in January it finally showed up in August. Other guy was very honest and sent a few other things my way as I had sent some others to replace the lost cards.

Two more to add to my 2021 Topps Finest Purple Pink Vapor Refractor /3 pursuit. Bryce Harper and Jazz Chisholm. 57 down, 43 to go.

Also, I happily acquired another 2006 Topps Finest 1/1....only finding one a year now (within a reasonable price range) if I am lucky.
