I was always a fan of Robbie. Its unfortunate that this had to happen to him.

It is indeed true and confirmed that he has AIDS.

http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/ ... omar_.html

This story does nothing to confirm he has aids....again, it is only her word at this time!

He tested positive.

According to what source....his girlfriend? Again, it is only her word at this time.

Even though it can't be passed through saliva, you can't help but wonder if the umpire he spit on felt a little nervous this morning. That would be rough to hear.

Just a bit insensitive.

No. Its not.

Im not a doctor, and I know if someone who I found out had AIDS spit on me, I might get a little worried too.

That's insane. Would you worry if someone with cancer coughed on you?

TO be quite honest there is a bit of a difference. What if alomar had a cut in his lip and spit blood with that loogie? This is defenitally something that may go through your mind. I have been in such a situation with more diseases than just AIDS. Trust me from a personal point of view you always kind of think.

I can tell you, in all honesty, that if two people spat on me, one with AIDS and one with a common cold, I'd be much more concerned about the latter.

I guess you actually have to be put in a situation to where you get urine or spat on by an infected person before you know how you will react. Just because you KNOW better, doesnt mean you dont think about it.

Robbie Alomar + Omar Vizquel = best middle infield EVAR!

;)

Sucks that he has AIDS though.

And BTW, for everyone saying that AIDS can't be passed through saliva is mistaken.

It can be passed through ANY transmission of bodily fluids, however it's EXTREMELY rare that one would contract it through transmission of saliva.

If her story is true, I would lose a lot of respect for him.

Yep, it is possible to transmit AIDS through saliva. It's super rare, thus it is basically discredited as a way of passing AIDS on.

Sad story. Yes the girl could be trying to sander him, but think about it - is she so stupid to make a huge accusation? She'd have been better off saying rape or assault. That's something she could lie about and get away with. AIDS is something that can easily be disproved.

I remember in school talking about this, It would still take like a gallon of saliva or something like that thought. Also like you said Extreamely rare.

I have several very good friends who play MLB. It was well known that Robbie was at least bi-sexual and many felt he was a homosexual covering up his private life by dating beards (ie mary pierce). There is a well known story amongst players that he had an affair with one of his teammates in cleveland and when that went bad the other player was promptly shipped out of town. I am very sad for Alomar.

I believe it's more like a swimming pool full...

But, I can say with complete assurance, that 99% of humanity if spit in the face by someone with AIDS would skip a heart beat and give serious consideration as to what just happened, despite medical understandings. Just because one person is logical enough to look at the situation for what it is(meaning a relatively small chance to none in contracting AIDS), it's fruitless to assume anybody else would be so calm and understanding.

I understand the fact thas contracting AIDS through saliva is slim to none, but still would react nervously if spit in the face by an AIDS patient. And, I'd be willing to bet 99% of humanity would as well. Nothing to debate here, just human nature albiet illogical..

You would have to drink a gallon of an HIV/AIDS + patient to contract the disease. I was in medical school and this is one thing I'm sure of (too bad I missed the other 99 questions  ).

I recall hearing rumors back in the day. Being just that, rumors, I never put much stock into them. I guess now they held some truth.

While he was generally believed to be homosexual while in Toronto, the fact that he (may) have AIDS certainly doesn't prove that.

I didn't say it did. I was talking about seitas posts of having semi-first hand knowledge. Let's not assume what someone means. If you weren't sure what I meant, you could have asked. Thanks

Understood. I misread the bolded part referring to the AIDS revelation. My apologies for that.

I have heard the same thing. Also heard he and Brady were pretty close down here in baltimore.
