Anyone who knows me knows I am a sucker for old stadiums and old stadium photos. Being a hug fan of baseball history, looking at these photos take me back to a time and place where I wish I could have been. I recently ran across a huge number of vintage Yankee Stadium photos that I thought I would post here. What I have posted is but a very small fraction of the photos I have seen but I wont bore you with all of them. I thought these were a good representation of what I found. While not a Yankee fan, I can appreciate the stadium and it's history.

I am constantly on the look out for old stadium shots and hopefully I won't bore you when I post them.

I hope you enjoy today's photos of the day

The first opening day of Yankee Stadium, April 18, 1923

Ticket booths...notice the price of a ticket for the grandstand and in the lower right corner....notice the spittoon on the street. There was no spitting on the sidewalk back then

A shot of the gathering crowd. I love the look of the cops who look like they will crack someone's head open at a moments notice.

A shot from right field. Notice the "track" that ran around the whole field as well as the flag pole that was in play.

Yankee Stadium exterior, 1959. I will never understand why they covered up the "Yankee Stadium" signage with a freaking clock!

Maine of course......
Great shots!!! The one image looking in from LF makes the stadium look kind of rickety. Glad I made it to the 'ol stadium before they took it down.

Looking forward to your vintage Fenway vantage points ;)

Happy 5000th to me :D

Once again, you've managed to post some thought provoking pictures. I always wonder what some of the people in these pictures did before and after the photo was taken. Oh well, I guess I'll never know, but I won't stop wondering.;)

I actually do the same thing. I think that is one of the reasons that keep me looking for these photos as I like to not only observe the overall picture but look at the faces and details behind the main subject.

Thanks for the kind words.

Happy 5000th post MaineMule!

Great idea for Fenway pictures. I will take up that challenge and see what I can find!
