Man. I did not remember AT ALL that he went to STL after the Rockies. Let alone that he actually played in a WS for them. I'm serious. This was news to me, 20 years after the fact.

Well then.

Anyway, he did have a good series that year. Too bad the Cards got swept. I do remember this one as the year the Red Sox finally won after the Curse and Buckner and yada yada whatever. But seriously folks. Larry Walker was there?

Mind blown.
Yeah, certain players look weird playing for some teams, I guess he seems strange as a Card because they always seem to get a lot of toolsy players and Walker was an old/limited slugger at the time. It shows how fickle baseball is. He loses in the WS with a 105 win team, then next year loses in the playoffs with a 100 win team and retires. They win 83 games the next year and win the WS(!)

Damn, really? I also did not know that. It sucks he never won a WS. I met him briefly at spring training in Arizona in the mid 90's. The autographed poster is still hanging in my sun room. Although it's been so bleached by years of sun that you'd never know who the signatures are. But I do...

Anyway, for the record, during his last year in STL he had a 130 OPS+ at age 38. Only 11 points under his career average.

That guy could play.

Thanks, but I've spent so much on Alomar cards the past few months that I'm feeling soiled. And spent out. Just on RA.

Why not put that card up on the bay? He's a somewhat recent HOF inductee you know...

He was on the Expos team that had the MLB lead in wins when the strike happened. That might have been his best chance, but you could argue the sneaky Braves team right behind them in the division could have made a late push. . .

Yeah! I'm great at giving people sh*t advice about how to handle their financial assets. Just do what I say and you'll be in fat city, baby.

The Rockies just got swept by the Padres in a 3-game series.

But they didn't just get swept, they got shut out in all three games, with their hitters producing 9 hits in 27 innings of "major league" baseball.

On the plus side, it's nice to see the Padres playing this well. I've always had a soft spot for that team. Maybe this is "their year".

For some reason I'm listening to the game tonight on the radio. I don't mind Jerry Schemel, but our other guy Jack Corrigan drives me nuts. Something about the cadence of his call, and especially the intonation. I know it's picky, but I like listening to games on the radio. And there are local radio guys I really like. Jason Kosmicki for the Nuggets is the absolute best, and Conor McGahey for the Avalanche is also top notch. But I have to give it up for Schemel and Corrigan for somehow soldiering through 162 games of putrid baseball year after year after year after year.

Anyway, last inning the Rockies just set a team record for consecutive scoreless innings at 31. They had a leadoff double, but couldn't even advance the guy, let alone score him.

And yeah, their run differential. At the moment it's sitting at -47 runs, which is almost DOUBLE that of the second place team (A's at -24).

A good radio announcer can make or break everything. Radio baseball is one of those classic Americana things that never tires.

After watching this sh*tshow I'm going to set the over/under loss total at 112.5 right now. Its an agressive line, but I think its fair. What side are you guys taking?

Under.

Not only are the Rox heading toward their worst start in franchise history, they are also leading the NL in errors.

Edit: I meant over! I read the question and then my pea brain translated it as over/under on WINS not losses. I will take the under on wins and over on losses :-)

Yeah that's true. And in all honesty I don't think the Rockies will really beat their all time worst season record by 10 losses.

But I really made this thread for just to hate on this franchise. This damned franchise, and its utterly incompetent owner, who have flatly refused to bring good baseball to Denver. I really love baseball. And it just kills me that Dick Monfort and his merry band of idiots simply will not become better at their jobs.

So give me the over.

PS: Tonight's game is 5-0 Dodgers in the 3rd.

I was going to wait and let other Rockies fans give their opinion, but then I realized there aren't any. 🫣 (There were a few in the early days of FCB) I would also agree that the under of 112.5 is the better bet. That being said if they get 1-2 injuries at key spots losing more could really happen.

I seem to remember at least one FCB member with Rockies in his screen name. And perhaps one other Rockies fan as well? Or maybe I'm making that up, since I haven't seen them post for a long time.

So yeah it'll mostly be just me venting on this thread. At least until my usual apathy returns, and I just can't be bothered to even complain.
