Im on the fence about this year. I did not go to last year's event, but i went to the previous 3. This year is the weekend after Chicago suntimes and I am not sure if I can be away from the store for that many days in a short period of time.

Last year was the first one. The Hawaii Trade Conferences are not affiliated with the Summit.

Yes I know, but it still has the same people and purpose.

I don't know what goes on or what to expect at one of these events, is it like a giant card show? Since I live here in Vegas I just might have to go.

You probably have to be involved in the industry some how to get in.

thinking about it, but not sure it's worth it. can anyone who's been give some insight as to whether it's worth it (e.g., can you really learn anything that's not readily available/already known? is it more than a 'schmooze fest'?

Can anyone enlighten us with details of this event?

I've actually just booked the week to go myself today.

Just hoping to go and meet some of the people I've only talked via e-mail and telephone with.

That ... and its in Las Vegas! I'll hopefully have a nice spread so contact me if you want to meet up.

So Ive found out a whole bunch more details about this conference.

It is mainly for LCS, dists, licensors and card companies.

Unlike last years which had a three month lead way to get everything done, this years event is shaping up to be similar to past Hawaii Trade Conferences.

Now its not going to be all lavish, drawn out like Hawaii, obviously, but its similar in that the promotional stuff, the cards, samples etc are said to be "very good." In other words, less emphasis on the food and more on the freebies.

Ive heard that UD's give outs avg about $100 per card and that Panini will continue its "Black Boxes" and Leaf will have a nice gift (spill the beans BG).

I also just got an email stating that Topps is going heavy into it as well, bringing back their "Retailing for Success" seminar AND an evening reception where attendees will get a Topps Birthday gift.

I also was told there will be something similar to "Meet the Industry" and anyone who is familiar with that knows how insane that is.

Its $300 for the conference fees and I believe the rooms are in the $50 per night range. But I believe many of the distributors are willing to pay the $300 to sponsor some stores.

So why am I "promoting" this? Do I have a stake in it? No, but I do own a Hobby Store and know how valuable the contacts, info and yes, gifts can be and Im hoping to convince other LCS owners to make the trip.
