Selling on Ebay,PSA 9 vs. Raw

Is it common occurence for a raw card to out sell a PSA 9?I'm not talking about prospect cards,more particularly very rare 90's inserts.I seen a raw 1996 Gold atomic refractor Jeter end at $150 and some change in raw form months ago,while a PSA 9 of the same sneezed on $100 last night.With the claimed print run of /250 and under,and of a Jeter 'rookie era' card,I guess I just expected it to sell higher.I ask because I have a raw card(in great shape may I add),and if I had a chance at getting $30-$50 more in 9 form,its worth it,but if it sells more in raw form(assuming a 9 grade is attainable) its not worth it.

Raws often do go for more. To me PSA 9 is the best buy for a personal collection. Still looks great to the eye and is protected well.

Raws have the "prospect" phenomenon

A graded 9 is the card and nothing more
A raw card has the "potential" of being graded higher than a 9 - and PSA 10's and BGS 9.5's sell like 300% more than 9's

But sometimes people get caught up on just having the card and not worrying about condition .. Condition is key

Most people can't judge true grading especially surface

I'd feel

I have noticed a PSA 9 does sell for less than a raw. Which in my opinion buying a raw chrome card is a crap shoot on what your getting. With so many people grading or at least attempting to grade their cards, I tend to think the seller would have graded the card if it was worthy in the first place. Grading is to subjective of the individual, selling graded versus raw is much less frustrating because you don't have buyers asking condition questions because of bad scans.

I am about to list a bunch of PSA 9 and 10 Chromes so I will find out first hand.

The worst is when a PSA 9 appears better than a raw that sold for much more but a seller claims it is MINT in the title.

PSA centering standards seem more lax than BGS in my opinion.
The question I always want an opinion on does a PSA 9 equal a BGS 9 or 9.5. PSA 10 equal a BGS 9.5 or 10?

i would take a psa 9 over a raw for my pc cards anytime. a psa 9 is a great grade when it comes to older cards.

A BGS slab with Sub grades of 9.5, 9.5, 9.5, and 9 equals a PSA 9, I can show the PSA crossover sub where I learn this tidbit. It is a urban legend that BGS is more strict than PSA.

I did not post/make one. I can scan the 10 cards that fall into this category and show the subs. I can probably dig up the email where I ask my PSA rep how a BGS 9.5 could not be a 10 and her response was any one sub grade of a 9 makes the card a 9.

Also his card suggest that BGS is an easier grade.

For the record I have recently send PSA10s to BGS for crossover to 9.5min and about 20% were returned w/o being crossed.

Monthly, I grade a lot of cads with both and find them to be quite similar in grading quality and difficulty.

My only guess is that with raw, people are hoping/thinking that the card will grade gem mint or higher, something along those lines. If buying online, I'd prefer a PSA 9 any day of the week as I've run into many sellers in the past that seem to think their card is in a better condition than it is. With that said, one man's mint is another's NM so it's based on the individual.

On a side note, I always got a kick out of this one.

Of course a grading company doesn't want to turn another companies "almost perfect" grade into a "perfect grade" in their slab.


If you crack a 9.5/9.5/9.5/9 and send it in 100 times I get you would get more 10s than 9s.

The only PSA graded card I own is a 10 and I would be shocked if it graded a BGS 9.
