What's the difference between one-touch holders and screw-downs (other than the magnet versus the screw)? Since you can't use a penny sleeve in either, can't the same surface damage happen if the card sticks to the plastic over time?

If the card fits in the holder loosely enough to allow a little bit of wiggle, would it be OK? For example PSA slabs, or those Topps/Bowman/eTopps "uncirculated" cards.

There's been quite a bit on the forums recently about card surface damage from screwdowns, so I've recently started switching over to penny sleeves and toploaders for all cards. I remember I originally started using screw-downs because I couldn't find toploaders thick enough, but now they're available in multiple sizes at my LCS.

Thanks.

as long as you give some room on the top, screwdown or one touch is the same. I prefer one touch, though.

for example, those thick memorabilia cards that fits PERFECTLY on 120 point ultra pro one touch? I use 180 point to give some room on the top. that way, it doesn't touch the top of th card

Really no benefit to screw downs UNLESS you are talking about 1 inch flat lucite screwdowns that can accomodate a sleeve inside. Those are great for high end vintage and flattening high end chromes.

The damage from screwdowns is where idiots smashed the card in the holders. As long as card isn't smashed it won't get damaged. I like to make sure there is a little room inside one touch. Use a size bigger. Just don't be an idiot and smash a card where you can see pressure on the card itself, you won't ever have any damage.

As long as you get the right size for either one..it doesn't matter which one you use. Both are the same.

I don't trust magnets. How do it know? Plus, I have a one-touch where the hole in the back part is about an angstrom too large, so if you pull on the front half the right way, the magnet slides out. The annoyance of screwdowns is off-set by the security of knowing they won't just pop apart.

I currently use both depending on the card..

I use soft sleeves in them... take a pair of scissors and cut off the sealed end.. slide it over the card and then into the holder,,

For my Ultimate Patch cards I am using the 10 count with a soft sleeve folded in half or twice to fill the void as cards are different thickness and then sealed in a team bag..

I always thought I was the only one to do this. Maybe you got the idea from me.

Pro Mold holders have sloped insides that can dent the edges where the recessed corners are. Ultra Pro's aren't sloped and won't damage the card. With the recessed corners on the screwdown/one touch, you can use a sleeve on the card, make it nearly invisible, and prevent the card from touching the holder at all edges/surfaces.
