I've been sitting on these for awhile. The fronts are similar to the style we're used to seeing with Broder cards except they have a color MLB logo on them. The backs are also similar to the usual Broder style except it has a black and white MLB logo, a blurb about trademark copyright. The three types of backs I have are:

1989 Action Superstars (not numbered)
1989 Action Superstars Display Card (numbered)
1989 Limited Edition Playball USA (not numbered)

Has anyone seen these for their players?

Interesting. Never seen them with an MLB logo. The whole outcry about Broders was that they were unlicensed cards. Wonder if at some point they submitted samples for licensing? Could be that. Or just a set I've never seen. Would hate to think I need to track down more Broders!

I'm thinking these may be some test cards that were used when Broder tried to figure out a design for a license for the 1991 Playball USA set.

The logos are so large and prominent that they do seem to be a response to their criticism of being unlicensed. Like "OK, OK don't sue us, we'll conform. Look at the logo!" But didn't MLB squash them in 1990 with threats of legal action?

Not sure of exact timing, but it was early 1990s.
