Was there a 8x10 dealer promo in 2001 that game in a big gold pack?

I was in the local "card shop" [mainly coins, but has old wax (2002-2005 Topps)] and he had an 8x10 with the 50 yr anniversary logo on the front. It was still sealed.

What is this and does it have any value?

I can't help you on the promo pack, but interested in where the shop is......

Is it in Osky? Give me a name/address so I can check it out sometime.

I've seen the individual cards sell ok from those I think. I'm pretty sure there is a Golden Anniversary Mike Schmidt in there, 1 or 2 Nolan Ryan's, can't remember who else. I'd say the whole package is worth $30 to $40, but the problem is finding people that card about 8x10 stuff. There just isn't as many collector's that want the oversized stuff.

Ryan,

It's McKee Coins. That's why I put card shop in the ""s.

I stopped in yesterday for comic book boxes and it was on his wall. It was purdy!

I remember those promos and have one of each still at home. Most people dont care about them but I kept mine because I want to get them autographed (but never have). Oneof the 8 x 10's is a reprint of an Aaron rookie that I have always wanted to get signed but havnt spent the money to do so. For some reason I liked these items and its one of the things I kept after closing my store down.

Weren't there actual sample/promo cards made and distributed for 2001 Topps (the regular sized cards)? I remember seeing a Craig Biggio promo card on the Bay once or twice, but no other cards. I have sample cards from 2002 through 2005 and then 1991-2000, but none from 2001 and am now wondering if they even existed.

From what the SCD Annual says, it's an 8-card promo pack. The cards show off some of the insert sets from that year.

1. 54 Aaron
2. Bench Golden Great
3. McGwire base
4. Ryan King of Kings
5. Schmidt Golden Greats
6. Gibson/Martinez Topps Combos
7. Checklist (Why? There's only six cards, do we need a checklist? ::facepalm:: must be the Series One Checklist.)
8. Header

Those oversize cards are a pain unless you frame them. Would look great in a restaurant/bar or Man Cave.

Are they 8 x 10 or 11 x 14??? For some reason I thought they were bigger than a regular 8 x10?
I know they were good looking cards. My old LCS owner gave them to me when he got them.
I will dig them out.....

You are right in that these are bigger than 8x10. I really have to dig these out and send my Ryan to his foundation for an autograph.

As for the 2001 promos, yes Topps did make promo's for 2001 and I used to have a million of them. I just pulled some promos out of the pile I had put away a number of years ago. The distributors used to give these promo packs away to card shops like they were giving away candy at halloween. I had a number of customers that asked for them and they usually got them.

I found out I only have 5 (makes it easier to break up! :D )

I have:
The header
Mark McGwire BASE
Gibson / Pedro Martinez MOUND MARKSMEN
Schmidt GOLDEN GREATS
Ryan KING OF KINGS

They measure 9" X 12 1/2"
Still want to get the Ryan signed. ;)
