I figured I'd share this one because 1978 will always hold a special place in my collecting heart. HOFer and a low print run (despite being a buyback from a set loaded with low print runs). I think it was /9, but already filed it.

I would have to dig deeper to see if this card has anything special to it i know some of the sets in this era has autographs that were only a partial part of a serial numbered run. What i am trying to say is a card serial numbered to 1000 might have had the first 100 signed and the rest were just inserts w/o auto. If it's nothing special, its still a unique card that doesn't seem to pop up much, at least in my searches.

I also won a nice group of about 15-20 of these. Not traditional cards to most, I am a big fan of newspaper items that were printed to resemble cards or were part a continuous series that could be clipped/saved, like a trading card. These fit that description for me and as a kid, I managed to see and saved one of the 3 Garvey appearances over the years. These items will never catch on to mainstream collectors like regular cards do, but oddball collectors will often appreciate these items for what they are and how incredibly tough it is to go back and find them if you wanted to add one to your collection, as so many were tossed/recycled. Remember, most people saw these as garbage newspapers to toss out when you were done reading them, which is exactly the type of mindset what helped make vintage trading cards what they are today, valuable collectibles instead of kids garbage playthings to toss when they got older.

These Gus Goodsport & Sport Stars bios were part of Sunday paper supplements that ran for many years dating back to the early 70s.

I know this will be 75% non-baseball in the baseball forum, but I am pretty excited about all 3 of these, especially Thomas.

First, the 25% baseball. Dave McNally. He won 20+ games 4 consecutive seasons for the Orioles 1968-71, but nobody knows who the guy was. Somewhat hidden on a staff that included Jim Palmer & Mike Cuellar, Pat Dobson joined the 3 of them in 1971 to boast a 4 man rotation of 20 game winners!

Almost as quickly as his stardom came on, it began to fade and he was out of MLB by 1975. He died at age 60 in 2002, the year this card was issued. I am not sure how many certified cards he has, but not many I would assume. This was a nice one to nab and it cost me a decent amount considering his overall status as a MLB player, but I am happy with it.

Now the FB/BKB

Joiner is /25 and a great looking retro feel set.

The big hit for me today is this 1994 Signature Rookies Kromax Flash from the Past Isiah Thomas /100. There is just something about this and the Super Acrylium sets, especially the autos, that I just love. They are weirdly space-like, but I still love them. Hope to have the entire signed set of both someday, but they are not for sale often.

Part 2:
I've got 5 or 6 more cards coming but I'm still only about halfway there. This may be the last year I super collect Ryan, especially if the Cardinals get stupid and trade him. It's mainly about the fact that I don't want to have to chase 30+ parallels every year though. There are 5 1/1s for him just in Update.

The base has copies out there with both blue and black swatches. Somehow I managed to end up with two blue copies and no black one of course so I've got a third one on the way. The Black /199 somehow got creased in the mail so I have another one coming.

Impressive! How many variations are there?
Think I counted 36 with 1/1s (there's 4 of those) for the base set and there are always 5-7 more unannounced like Meijer Purple, Walgreens Yellow, Mint Collective etc. that pop up so I'm sure the final total will be 40+ by the end of it. I've got 15 in and 2 more coming so 17 so far. There are also a base and 4 variations of the All Star Stitches I posted and another All Star Jumbo Relic that may have another 3-4 parallels but they're off checklist at the moment.
