Hank Greenberg was not only a gifted baseball player, but a role model for all young baseball players. Being Jewish in the early 20th Century was a hardship, and Hank knew this first hand. Hank was a rock. Although he was constantly descriminated against and hated, he performed to the best of his ability. The haters only fueled his fire and his passion for the game.
If it wasn't for 4 missed seasons (3 for military service, 1 for a broken wrist), Hank would be one of if not the most productive right-handed hitter of all time. He led the league in RBI's twice, once with 180+. His record of 103 RBIs before the All-Star break still stands to this day.
This is the reason I collect him. Not only for his Hall of Fame numbers or the value of his autograph, but the value of him as a person, and as a role model.
