This week’s theme should be Arizona Diamondbacks because the list is almost half filled with players or prospects from the team. They are leading the NL West, but can they keep it up. Just imagine what they would be doing if Justin Upton was tearing it up with them and not for the Atlanta Braves. Lots of 2011 stuff is also on the list.

On a side note, Ebay is making it harder and harder to see what best offer prices have sold for, so it takes more and more time to figure out things. Hope you enjoy.

2011 Bowman Chrome Jean Segura Autographs

Although the Brewers are in last place in the NL Central, they have a couple players on their team that are tearing the cover off the ball. One of those guys is Jean Segura, who is leading the league in batting average (.361) and hits (57). Many question if he can keep it up the rest of the season, but he is definitely showing who got the best of the Zach Greinke trade with the Angels last year.

Because Segura is producing, the price of his autographs and even base cards are selling well. His 2011 Bowman Chrome autographs are selling for $50 after selling for half that last week. His 2010 Elite autographs are selling for $22 when they only sold for $10 at the end of April. Couple of hot sales include the 2010 Bowman superfractor for $760 and 2011 Bowman Platinum autograph superfractor for $736.

2011 Bowman Chrome Archie Bradley Autographs

Bradley has been pitching great this spring and has moved into the top 5 prospect talk for many. Basically, he is doing what Dylan Bundy did last year and is creeping up the prospect boards. The guys is 5-0 with a 1.11 ERA with 68 strikeouts in only 48.2 innings. Although they got rid of Trevor Bauer, the Diamondbacks have a future ace in their farm system.

Because of his torrid start, Archie Bradley’s 2011 Bowman autographs have jumped from $25 to $42 this week. A notable sale on the Archie Bradley front is a 2011 Bowman blue refractor autograph BGS 9.5 for $210.

2010 Bowman Platinum Pat Corbin Autographs

No longer a prospect, but a guy that has been pitching really well this season, Pat Corbin is showing why the Diamondbacks can groom pitching. He is a perfect 6-0 on the season with a 1.52 ERA. He already has the same amount of wins that he had all of last year. He has put himself in the All-Star conversation for sure.

Corbin’s 2010 Bowman Platinum autographs have shot up from $5 last week to around the $20 mark this week. A red refractor autograph /10 sold for around $220.

2011 Bowman Chrome Paul Goldschmidt Autographs

Yes, another Diamondback on the list. This guys isn’t a pitcher though, he is a Paul Bunyan-like masher. Paul Goldschmidt is batting .335 with 12 home runs on the season Not to mention, he is a first baseman and can run fairly well (he has 4 stolen bases). He is proving the doubters time and time again that he has what it takes to be a starter in the big leagues.

Goldschmidt’s 2011 Bowman Chrome autographs sold for around $30 last week, but are now over the $60 mark. His 2010 Elite autographs are up to $35 after only selling between $5 and $10 last week. Notable sales include a 2011 Bowman Orange Refractor /25 autograph BGS 9.5 for $985 and a gold BGS 10 /50 for $898.

2012 Panini Elite Adam Walker Autographs

Perhaps one of the most underrated prospects coming into the season, Adam Walker is showing that he can put up the numbers. Walker hit 14 home runs in only 58 games last year, and he has continued his power trip into this season by hitting 10 so far.

Because he has reached double digits in home runs, he is starting to get some attention. His Elite autographs are selling for $15 after selling for only a couple of bucks at the beginning of the month.

2011 Bowman Chrome George Springer Autographs

Because he did not crack the top 100 prospects on many lists in the offseason, George Springer’s cards took a hit. He has put himself back in the top 100 talk by leading Minor League Baseball with 13 home runs. His 2011 Bowman Chrome autographs are up are selling for around $30 when they were about half that at the beginning of the month. A Gold refractor /50 autograph recently sold for over $300.

2008 Razor David Adams Autographs

Taking over for Kevin Youkilis while he is on the DL, David Adams is trying to make a name for himself with the Yankees. He has only played in 4 games, but his cards are sure getting attention. His 2008 Razor autographs sell around $10 while they were not even selling for a buck last week. Since he has no other autographs, Razor stuff is actually selling for a change.

R-319

What’s in a name? The American Card Catalog, a book published in the early 1950′s, designated each card set a number. These prefixes were meant to differentiate certain cards from each other and group others that are akin. These prefixes included T (cards found in tobacco products) E (cards found in caramel products) D (cards found in bread products) M (cards found within magazines) F (cards used in ice cream and dairy promotions) and many more. These designations cover all cards, baseball and not, from the 1880′s until the early 1950′s. Some designations, like the T-206 that was chosen for the White Bordered set are used almost universally. Others, like this week’s R-319 are so rarely used they don’t even appear on third party grading flips.

So what is the R-319 trading card set? The ACC name may mean little to most collectors but it’s most commonly used name is unkown to none. The 1933 Goudey Gum Co baseball cards. Issued from the company founded by Enos Goudey, the 1933 Goudey cards were the first to include a stick of chewing gum within the pack; a tradition held with many trading card companies for over 50 years.

The 1933 Goudey cards are known for their bright and fresh hand drawn pictures of the players and reverse sides that depicted both player stats and physical attributes but also card numbers. The player selection is 240 different cards making it the largest of the Goudey sets, and the first major baseball card set that was numbered and collected out of packs of gum. Babe Ruth, Moe Berg, Jimmy Fox, the famed and extremely rare Nap Lajoie and of course the Gehrig depicted are some of the greatest cards from the set. A beautiful set of baseball cards these truly are.

Lou Gehrig of course needs little biography. One of the games greatest players, and certainly one it’s most humble; Gehrig’s life and career was cut short by the disease that now holds his name. A member of the 1927 Yankees Murder’s Row, Gehrig’s most iconic image is found in the R-319, or if you prefer, the 1933 Goudey Big League Chewing Gum set.

To some collectors, the release of 2013 Bowman was like Christmas: opening packages, hoping for great presents inside the new product. This year’s prospect autograph checklist was among the strongest yet, but the odds for hitting colored refractors seemed to be tougher to find. Even $5 autographs in this year’s product seem to be great investments because they are promising prospects. It also feels like Christmas for basketball fans with the NBA Playoffs kicking off. There have been many premium games early on in the playoffs. This week’s list reflects these two sides of the Christmas spectrum.

2013 Bowman Chrome Byron Buxton Autographs

Buxton was the 2nd overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in last year’s MLB draft, and rightfully so. He is hitting .339 with 5 home runs with 13 stolen bases. He combines speed, average and power similar to the Matt Kemp of old.

Buxton’s autograph is perhaps the most sought after autograph in 2013 Bowman. His base autographs have now leveled out to the $110-$120 mark after early sales were much greater. Gold refractor autographs were selling between $750-$850. Crazy money for a crazy good prospect.

2013 Bowman Chrome Carlos Correa Autographs

Although he was drafted ahead of Buxton in the draft last year, Correa hasn’t shown impressive numbers like Buxton. He has only hit .224 with 3 home runs thus far. His 2013 Bowman base autographs are still selling for a good chunk of change by hitting $70-$75 at the end of the week. To compare to Buxton, his gold refractor autographs are selling for around $560.

His lofty prospect status should keep these cards high. Prospectors who spend this kind of money on a chrome autograph do not give up easy and should keep the market up.

Klay Thompson Autographs

After having a career game on Wednesday for the Golden State Warriors against the Spurs, he became a well-known commodity. Thompson was making three’s left and right going 7 for 8 from the arch. He tallied up 29 points that night. Thompson and Steph Curry are becoming young stars for the Warriors.

Because of his NBA Playoff performance, Klay Thompson’s autographs have gotten plenty of attention. Buy it nows were being hit left and right just like his 3-pointers. His 2012-13 Panini Prizm autographs /149 were selling for $15 at the end of April and have shot up to the $40-$50 mark after his performance in game 2. Also, his 2012-13 Panini Select Jersey autographs nearly doubled after his performance.

Stephen Curry Autographs

Like his teammate, Stephen Curry has also been on fire as of late. He has become one of the best young players in the game recently and as a result, his cards have spiked. His 2009-10 Elite autograph has hit $60 after only hitting $37 a couple of weeks ago. This pictured Panini National Treasures Patch autograph recently sold at auction for $860.

2013 Bowman Yasiel Puig Inserts

Yasiel Puig is a man-child and we have seen him on the hotlist before with his unlicensed 2012 Leaf autographs. In 2013 Bowman, Topps inserted some licensed Puig cards, showing him for the first time in a Dodgers uniform. His Top 100 chrome insert card is selling for $10 and his die-cut /99 is selling for around $115 and that’s pretty solid for an insert card. It makes you wonder if Topps is holding his autograph back for 2013 Bowman Chrome.

2011 Bowman Chrome Starling Marte Autographs

Perhaps he’s the best over-performing player on your fantasy team, but Starling Marte has done everything right so far this season. He has started off the season hitting .336 with 5 home runs. He also adds speed with his 10 stolen bases. Actually, he is doing so well he is outdoing the guy that was supposed to be their best player, Andrew McCutchen. If he keeps up this pace, he could steal the show from Cutch.

As a result of his all-star caliber start, Marte’s 2011 Bowman Chrome autograph prices have jumped up from $24 to $38. A couple of weeks ago, his 2011 Bowman Sterling autographs were selling for $14 and now they have jumped to over $20.

2010 and 2013 Bowman Chrome Shelby Miller Autographs

Shelby Miller proved on Friday night why he has been dubbed one of the best pitching prospects in the game. Miller threw a one-hit shutout against the Colorado Rockies. He actually retired the last 27 batters that he faced. He gave up a leadoff single to end his no-hit bid from the get-go. Miller now is 2nd in the National League in ERA.

As a result of his performance, his cards have risen dramatically. His 2010 Bowman Chrome autographs are selling for $55, up from $35 last week and his 2013 Bowman Chrome autographs were up to $78 after his masterful performance when they were only hitting $25 earlier in the week. A 2010 orange refractor autograph sold for $455 recently.

2006 Bowman Chrome Carlos Gomez Rookie Cards

Like Marte, Carlos Gomez brings a combination of speed, defense and power to any team. Gomez is hitting .374 with 6 home runs and has 7 stolen bases. He has found his groove over the past year, and it seems to be sticking with him. Gomez’s 2006 Bowman Chrome Parallels have been selling for good coin. A raw gold refractor sold for $62 this past week when it only sold for $35 for a BGS 9.5 a month ago. Base chrome cards are selling for $5 a pop and could have been sold for only a buck or two last month.

T-212

The Obak Cigarette Company cards of 1909-1911, otherwise known as The T-212 set, depicted the players of the Northwestern League and the Pacific Coast League. Manufactured by the same company that created the famed T-206 White Bordered set, the Obak cards were distributed only in the west coast where the Pacific Coast League reigned supreme. Level of play was high in the Pacific Coast League and the players were as good as those in the American and National leagues back east where the more famous Piedmont, Polar Bear, Sweet Caporal and Hassan cigarette cards were produced.

The fronts of the T-212 look similar to their T-206 cousins and in fact they are the same size. Differences are the league name on the front and the lack of several poses for the star players.

The biggest difference of course is the treatment of the back variations. The T-212 Obak cards were released in three series, one each in the years of 1909, 1910 and 1911. The 1909 and 1911 series all depicted the same back with the only variations being ink color errors and other printing errors. The most collected back of the T-212 set is the 1910 series, depicting the Obak logo with a series of 35 known slogans.

“High Quality” is the slogan back of Mr. Thorsen’s card depicted above. A small variation that has been a fun and time consuming chase for collectors for many years. “A New Standard” is the back of a card from a player from Tacoma, Washington’s NWL team; Mr. Hartman.

The 1909 back is featured far left. The 1909 set featured only players from the PCL. The 1911 set returned to a solid back for all players with the inclusion of stats and a short write up for each player. The lack of star names and players that have faded with time have not hurt the collect-ability or prices of the set.

Talking about firing on all cylinders, this would definitely describe the work of Panini America of late. As hard core basketball collectors will tell you, they have felt a bit left out in the cold of late. The hate has been so extreme that even fans of the product line feel the need to be sarcastic about recent success.

These Silhouette patch autographs are second in the industry only to the National Treasures patch autographs and for Panini to have two giants at the top of a players list is a welcome sign to anyone who collects basketball. I am confident that these two products could compete even if there was an Upper Deck NBA Exquisite on the market.

Nolan Arenado Chrome Autos

Last weeks appearance was just a warmup. A call up and a big fly have caused his refractor autographs to jump about $30. And to further my own selfish personal agenda I would like to point out that elite autographs have tripled from $10 to $30 and have been much easier to obtain through the entire process.

A call up and a big fly does good things for a prospects stock even when it happens in somewhere like Colorado where the national attention isn’t focused. While I look for Arenado to do some good things in the majors, part of me still has Ian Stewart flashbacks.

E.J Manuel Valiant Autographs

The NFL Draft provides tons of surprises every year. Manuel was definitely the story this year. The Bills are in need of a true franchise quarterback and after scouting and interviews they think EJ is the guy. The fanbase is still quite split on this as lots of people are even still upset with the pick. Bills collectors (or whoever is buying these things) seem to be sold, as his valiant autographs tripled from $10 to $30. I think they could go even further if Leaf would do something about it’s confusing parallel runs. The prismatic line that they do looks fantastic but does not need all of the different numbering systems and variations. Keep the high end rare, and see the market react.

An impressive deep ball, work ethic, and attitude is what helped the Bills overcome the lack of polish in this pick. He will take a couple of years to get ready to see the field so that means you can probably get his cards for a discount later. The Bills have recently come out and explained that one of the reasons for going with him is his impressive work in bad weather. I would like to point out that a workout in bad weather isn’t the same as a fast paced NFL game.

Nick Williams Rookie Autographs

Nick is apparently too good for the South Atlantic League. This 19 year old held up an impressive 303/333/618 slash line with 7 home runs in 18 games. That will get pretty much anyone excited about your baseball cards.

He’s a masher that should hit in every level, but is prone to slumps giving him the “streaky” label. This also means he is a high risk prospect. Remember that you don’t necessarily need major league success when prospecting. It’s a pretty sure bet that he’s gonna hit a ton in the minors. Take that information and use it while you can, bowman chrome autographs at $15 are not out of reach yet. Don’t worry about the 7 day DL thing. It’s only precautionary after roughing up his shoulder diving for a ball.

Chris Stratton Chrome Autographs

Outside of Tim Lincecum the giants have a specific set of attributes in mind when they go scouting prospects. It’s almost like they are trying to clone Matt Cain.

You can’t argue with the successful track record the Giants have with developing pitchers. The 20th overall pick in this draft is looking like he’s the next in that line as he has held South Atlantic League hitters to a sub Mendoza .163 batting average. His ground ball rate is also quite nice as well. With his college background expect him to move through the minors quickly. His chrome autos are up from $8 to $15 this week.

06-06 UD Exquisite Nate Robinson Patch Auto

The NBA is certainly a fast paced league. It seems only natural that the cards be as volatile. One game in the spotlight with a glimpse of greatness can cause a price spike in the playoffs.

On Sunday Nate dropped an incredible 24 points in the fourth quarter to help his current team, The Chicago Bulls beat the Brooklyn nets in two over times. His 36 point performance followed by a steady showing the day after has his exquisite autographs more than doubling from $25 to well over $50.

It’s a simple and tested formula. ESPN runs a positive story and a players cards spike. Bryce Harper is the most recent subject of the media giants eye. This week has been dubbed by some as ESPN’s Bryce Harper Appreciation Week.

It’s not like the best prospect in recent memory actually needs the hype as everything he does is watched by and reacted to by baseball fans. The hobby has never seen such a sustained push by a rookie with this amount of purchase volume behind it. With ESPN pushing even harder the rich got richer and his 2011 Bowman Chrome auto got even more expensive pushing to $450.

Miguel Sano Chrome Autos

Let’s face it, dude is Albert Pujols in the minors. I cannot fathom a world where this guy comes up to the majors and isn’t a big star. His 1.183 OPS in the minors is no joke and probably not just the result of a hot start of a young season. He does strike out a bit, but the run production is there and it’s a big deal. It’s only a matter of time before he sees major league action.

His chrome rookies are up $20 from $50 to $70 this week.

I am sure there are some people left off the list, obviously we can’t include them all. Tell us who we missed!

The NBA Finals, the NFL Draft, Major League Baseball, NHL and warmer weather. What more could you ask for if you are a sports fan? This week’s list is all baseball, but next week, you can expect a rise in some football cards with the NFL Draft.

2012 Panini Prizm Baseball

Panini Prizm Baseball has gotten mixed reviews about its look, but it sells for good money. Gold Prizms /10 get the most hype and usually out-sell the autographs in the set. Prizm has a nice mixture of legends, veterans and prospects to appeal to all baseball collectors. A Gold Prizm Mike Trout (pictured) sold for a high premium of $510. This is pretty crazy money considering it is not even a rookie card. Yankees players are also popular with a Bernie Williams autograph SP sold for $355 and Derek Jeter gold Prizms are selling for $300-$400. Prizm has also brought controversy because they just released a “2012″ product in April of 2013, but regardless, it is a very popular product.

Brandon Crawford Rookie Autographs

Brandon Crawford is mainly known for his glove, but recently, his bat has been hot. Crawford was hitting .352 earlier in the week, but that has since dropped to .317. Last year, he hit .248.

When his bat was hot, so were his cards. His 2011 Bowman retail autograph was selling for $15-$25 when last week they were only averaging $5. His 2008 Elite school colors autograph /25 sold for a solid $75 when it was selling for $40 pre-Opening Day. It is not likely that he hits over .300 by the end of the season, but if he does, he’d be in the top 10 shortstops in the league.

2012 Topps Five Star Football Inscription Autos

Topps has not yet figured out how to match UD Exquisite and Panini National Treasures and contend for the honor of having a players absolute best card. There are some aspects of the set that they do right. There is no better example of this than the inscription autograph set. It gets better when players get creative and put something besides a bland stat or the obvious super bowl mvp inscription.

The pictured card here is Andrew Luck with a “Chuckstrong” inscription as a show of support for his head coach Chuck Pagano’s leukemia research campaign. Creativity is rewarded as this card sold for $775. People still love the unique.

2009 Bowman Chrome Chris Johnson Autographs

Chris Johnson, not the football star, but the third baseman for the Atlanta Braves is off to a hot start. Although he might not be Chipper, but he is hitting like him recently. Leading the National League with a .418 average, Johnson has been stroking. And yes, he was also in the Justin Upton trade in the offseason, so it is looking even more lopsided now.

Johnson’s cards have seen a nice jump because of his hot start. 2009 Bowman Chrome refractor autographs were only hitting $7 last week and are up to $26 this week. X-fractor autographs are hitting $32 and they were around the $18 mark last week. He is making the best out of his opportunity with Atlanta.

2011 Oswaldo Arcia Rookie Autographs

Oswaldo Arcia made a brief appearance in the Bigs, and then was promptly sent back down and then sent back up because Darin Mastroianni went on the DL. He has only 1 hit in the big leagues, but he is a promising prospect. The Twin’s willingness to bring him up might mean that they will do so again this season. Be ready for a solid week in the majors to lead to some big sale prices.

His 2011 Bowman Platinum autographs jumped from $10 to $20 after his call up and his 2011 Leaf Metal Draft and Valiant autographs doubled as well.

2008 Bowman Chrome J.P. Arencibia Autographs

Arencibia has been all muscle early in the season by hitting 7 home runs. In the power-hitting Blue Jays lineup, JP seems to be underrated because he usually hits 6th. He hit 18 home runs last year and should surpass that by the All-Star break if he keeps up the pace. However, with power comes strikeouts, and he is leading the league.

Arencibia’s cards have increased in price over the past couple of weeks. Before the season had started, his 2008 Bowman Chrome autographs were selling for $5-$8, but now they have reached the $20 mark. Other refractor autographs will continue to rise as long as his power still shows.

The Rockies are off to a hot start and so is one of their top prospects. Nolan Arenado is batting .389 with 3 home runs in Triple-A Colorado Springs and is a favorite to get called up this season. If he keeps tearing it up, it could be sooner rather than later.

His cards have seen a jump because of his start. 2010 Bowman Chrome autographs were selling for $25 last week and are up to the $35-$40 mark this week. Refractor autographs are also up from $47 to $60 this week.

Although he is only batting .218, Williamson has shown promise in his first couple of weeks in San Jose. The San Francisco Giants prospect hit 9 homers in only 33 games last year and he has hit 2 this year. Collectors are beginning to realize that this guy has excellent power because his 2012 Elite autographs are up from $3-$5 a couple of weeks ago to $10-$15 mark currently. Recently, a gold die-cut /5 autograph sold for $126.

Still Hot

Third week in a row he is on the Hot List. Harvey out-dueled Stephen Strasburg on Friday by going a solid 7 innings.
