2011 Topps Gypsy Queen

The Topps exclusive has led them to branch out a bit and experiment with new releases.  In the world of baseball cards Gypsy Queen is the first new one of the year.  It’s patterned after the 1887 cards made by Goodwin and Company in New York, and one of several brands of tobacco they used baseball cards to advertise.

The new release is similar to Allen and Ginter releases of previous years, with less gimmicks.  You won’t find The Abominable Snowman, the Tooth Fairy, or Jack’s magic beans here.  You will find mocked up carnival gems if oddness is your thing.  The baseball content in this product is surprisingly strong, with lots of Koufax and Aaron.  Aside from big hits the product is driven by additional content added by the printing plates, numbered relics, and some beautiful stamp cards.

Our box had plenty of content, including the previously pictured jersey autograph card of Josh Johnson.  Other hits were a Tommy Hunter mini printing plate and an on card autograph of Marlon Byrd.  To win some Gypsy Queen of your own, comment on this article as one random winner will be selected.

FCB Weekly Hotlist – May 5th 2011 Edition

FCB Weekly Hot List

1. Mike Conley Exquisite Auto Patch /225

Conley

Comments: If you have a moment, go to youtube and type in “Reebok Dunk Contest.”  You can watch Mike Conley Sr., Ken Griffey Jr. and Deion Sanders dunk it out.  Griffey and Neon are no slouches but Conley Sr. is absolutely incredible.  This should tell you the kind of stock Jr. comes from.  A much heralded high school recruit and a one-year wonder in college Conley is finally starting to get noticed with the Griz (Legends of the Fall reference) playoff run.  His Exquisites moved from $25 to over $100 this week!

2011 Heritage: SSPs Facts & Speculation

This is what we know about this year’s Heritage, plus what is pure speculation on my part based on the original ’62.  This info was compiled in a thread by a FCB member.   If anyone can confirm something I’ve written is either correct or incorrect, I’d sure appreciate it. I’ll update as new information trickles in. It’s entirely possible that more is out there that is nowhere on this list.

* base Short Prints are 426-500.

* tinted variations: green tints are not SSPs, but definitely rare. Red tints are exclusive to Target, while blue tints are exclusive to Wal-Mart. They can only be found on cards numbered 110-196.

* black borders: looks like these parallel the chrome cards, and are unnumbered.

* green refractors: these are only found in hobby boxes. These boxes were inserted one per case – each pack in these boxes contains one green refractor. They are not numbered.

More info after the jump…
