The UPS guys must work late here. At 7:30 PM, my friendly UPS guy dropped off two boxes of 2010-11 ITG Heroes and Prospects hot of the presses from the folks over at ITG. I’m going to give you the memorabilia hits from my first box in a few moments, but first my quick hit thoughts after busting the first ice-cold (in temperature, it must have sat on the truck all day) box of Heroes & Prospects.
- I really like ITG’s move to action photos on their original backgrounds. Last year’s effort looked like genuine action shots, but the background was the same in all of them. Much improved this year.
- More base cards in the box. I have no issue with ITG dropping to fewer packs per box (18 from 24), but it made the base set really hard to assemble last year (especially with a product that is going to be around $100 per box). There are nine cards per pack this year (including the HSHS decoy card), so you get a much more satusfying stack of base cards.
- The CHL and AHL rookie cards are really nice, and while they have the same basic design as the base cards, they are also able to be picked out.
- Lots of “hits” in a box (at least the one I have opened to date). Two memorabilia. Two autographs. Three non-memorabilia inserts.
I promised you my memorabilia inserts. They were awesome. There was a bit of a theme as well:

So, yeah. That was a pretty awesome box to open. I kind of feel bad for taking this off the shelf and away from someone. I have a few more hits to show off from the first box, and then I need to open the second box, so there is going to be a steady stream of Heroes and Prospects the next little while.
