The Spring Training Statline Report Volume 1

A couple of years back former board member Crowhop (Keith Jones) and I used to write daily reports of interesting stat-lines across major league baseball.  We did this for nearly a full season, but things broke up as our personal lives filled with responsibility.  I had a lot of fun writing it though, and I am continuing it now for FCB during spring training as lots of important sports card stuff happens as a result of spring training games and position battles.  This was a short day as there weren’t many games, but there were a couple of long balls that stood out.

#1 Lonnie Chisenhall 3B Cleveland Indians 1-2 2 run homer

Lonnie is now a full time big league starter as the Indians have named him the full time third baseman.  He’s also healthy and figures to make a push this year.  If he sees a big spring his 2008 Bowman Draft autograph could shoot up in value.

#2 Jedd Gyorko 2B San Diego Padres 1-3 Grand Slam

Jedd is a couple of years behind Chisenhall in his development but still has a shot to make the club out of spring training.  Fellow San Deigo prospect Rymer Liriano going under the knife will give him a clean shot at the job.  This big fly by Gyorko will certainly help his chances.

1. Manny Banuelos 2010 Topps Pro Debut Blue /259 RC

Banuelos

Comments: Parallels of base cards usually sell poorly, parallels of Pro Debut base cards usually sell even worse.  Not the case with Manny Banuelos whose Blue /259 is now selling for $50 plus.  At this point you could probably draw a stick figure on a piece of cardboard and write Manny Banuelos on it and sell it for $5-$10.  His stuff is en fuego.
