The A.L. All-Star Starters and Their Rookie Cards

• Catcher: Alex Avila (Tigers)

The Rookie Card: His 2009 Bowman Chrome parallels have been going bonkers lately. His numbers aren’t all that astounding so I wouldn’t hold my breath on these values maintaining themselves but he is the AL starting catcher nonetheless. If you got ‘em, sell ‘em.

The Player: Batting a solid average with a little bit of pop this season the 24 year old is having a breakout season. Is he playing over his head? You be the  judge.

• First base: Adrian Gonzalez (Red Sox)

The Rookie Card: 2000 Bowman Chrome Draft Picks or 2000 Topps Chrome Traded are the ones you will see most. He has a 2000 Bowman autograph that will cost you a pretty penny. If you don’t want to pony up for the autograph a Chrome in a gold slab will fit nicely into your collection.

The Player: He’s good. We knew that. We didn’t know he was this good. .350+ average and career high paces for just about every stat you can think of. Boston has been good to the kid. If there is anything they can pick at him for it’s his BB:K ratio. Continue reading

Bautista

Comments: In a season full of surprises, perfect games and unusual stories, Bautista’s story may be the most surprising.  Let me say this loudly so you hear it “Jose Bautista has the major league lead in home runs, by five.”  Although collectors still remain skeptical, they are starting to take notice.  Last week a base auto sold for $8.50 at auction, this week, one sold for $18.50 and should he keep up this pace that figure is going to go much higher.
