ITG Baseball Auctions Uncut, Autographed Sheet for Charity

It’s a great thing when companies who walk tight budget lines that sports card manufacturers do want to give back.  ITG is doing that even before they have a baseball product out.  ITG is donating the proceeds from an auction featuring an autographed uncut sheet of it’s base level prospect cards to the Special Olympics.  The sheet itself features the marquee prospects of this last years draft, as well as some break out guys like The San Fransisco Giants and Texas Longhorns slugger Brandon Belt.

The sheet has already gotten quite a few early bids, and should fetch some nice coin because its a really nice piece and only 3 of them will hit the open market.

ITG Makes their entrance this February with a baseball product that is diverse enough to draw in mainstream collectors, and loaded with enough prospects that it could be a fun rip.  You can view the card images on ITG’s Facebook page that they have been using to show off their mock ups.

2010-11 ITG Heroes and Prospects Review

The UPS guys must work late here.  At 7:30 PM, my friendly UPS guy dropped off two boxes of 2010-11 ITG Heroes and Prospects hot of the presses from the folks over at ITG.  I’m going to give you the memorabilia hits from my first box in a few moments, but first my quick hit thoughts after busting the first ice-cold (in temperature, it must have sat on the truck all day) box of Heroes & Prospects.

  • I really like ITG’s move to action photos on their original backgrounds.  Last year’s effort looked like genuine action shots, but the background was the same in all of them. Much improved this year.
  • More base cards in the box.  I have no issue with ITG dropping to fewer packs per box (18 from 24), but it made the base set really hard to assemble last year (especially with a product that is going to be around $100 per box).  There are nine cards per pack this year (including the HSHS decoy card), so you get a much more satusfying stack of base cards.
  • The CHL and AHL rookie cards are really nice, and while they have the same basic design as the base cards, they are also able to be picked out.
  • Lots of “hits” in a box (at least the one I have opened to date).  Two memorabilia.  Two autographs.  Three non-memorabilia inserts.

I promised you my memorabilia inserts.  They were awesome.  There was a bit of a theme as well:

So, yeah.  That was a pretty awesome box to open.  I kind of feel bad for taking this off the shelf and away from someone.  I have a few more hits to show off from the first box, and then I need to open the second box, so there is going to be a steady stream of Heroes and Prospects the next little while.

09/10 ITG Heroes and Prospects: Soon!

The official release date for the product is January 27, 2010. If you are on ITG’s mailing list, you probably got an email with some pictures of the autographed memorabilia cards that will be featured in the product. Here’s a picture of Brayden Schenn‘s autographed number card.

A welcome addition to this year’s product is the clear designation of which parallel version the card is – ‘Black’ is typically the most plentiful level of parallels, followed by ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’. In the past these cards have been designated only by different colors of foil or borders, which led to a lot of confusion on the part of collectors.
