FCB Weekly Hot List – April 22nd Edition

FCB Weekly Hot List

1.Sam Fuld 2008 Topps Chrome Autos

Fuld

Comments: For the second week ago, an undersized guy, who was hardly ever considered a prospect tops the list.  Samuel Babson Fuld is the man this week.  Why do I know his middle name is Babson?  Well, that’s because his Wikipedia page is longer than some HOF’ers.  His Wikipedia page also notes that Sam was at one point in time called an untouchable by Jim Hendry.  Well in another flash of brilliance Jimbo re-negged on his prior statement and threw Sam in, in the Matt Garza trade (psst Matt’s 0-2, 4.74 right now).  Sam is batting over .300, stealing bases, throwing his body all over the place in the outfield and generally delighting Tampa Bay Rays fans.  As a result, his Topps Chrome Autos moved from $10 to $26 this week.

FCB Weekly Hot List

1.Brandon Jackson 2007 Exquisite RC Auto /225

Jackson

Comments: “Do you root for injuries?”  This question is often debated among sports fans in relation to their favorite teams opponents.  I think we can now ask that question as it relates to cards.  Ryan Grant, the Packers #1 RB went down for the season last week and in a matter of a few days Brandon Jackson’s Exquisite Autos moved from $15 to $100-$120, a truly incredible (Lambeau) Leap forward.

2. Arian Foster2009 Bowman Sterling Autos /599

Foster

Comments: So now it seems we have another running back from a Texas team, that runs hard and has a name that rhymes with Barbarian.  Interestingly enough, neither Marian or Arian strike me as particularly manly names, in fact quite the opposite.  None the less Mr. Foster had a career day last Sunday and his Sterling Autos went from about $50 to over $100.  Like many little known football players, this is his key (and one of his only) rookies.

3. Hakeem Nicks2009 Chrome Autos

Nicks

Comments: Everyone focuses on the Exquisites, the SP Authentics, the National Treasures and the other high-end football rookies.  Often overlooked though is the Chrome Auto.  In the case of Hakeem, after his 3 TD performance Chrome Autos (both Bowman and Topps) went from $12-$14 to $20-$24, a significantly higher % jump than any of the high end cards.

4. Matt Forte 2008 Topps Chrome Autos

Forte

Comments: Who has the initials M.F.?  Matt Forte and who else?  That’s right, Marshall Faulk, another pass catch running back in a Mike Martz offense.  If Matt Forte turns in anything close to a Marshall Faulk like season these chrome autos aren’t going to be available for $20 for long.  However, that’s what they are priced at now and even that is up from last week when they could be had for $12!

5. Troy Tulowitzki 2005 Bowman Chrome Draft

Tulo

Comments: He already has 11 home runs in September, that is equal to his total of May, June, July and August!  As a result, his base chromes which were about $1 each jumped up to about $3 each this week!

6.Michael Vick 2001 SPx Auto RC /250

Vick 2001

Comments: It is hard to believe that I’m writing a Hot List entry about Michael Vick.  It isn’t the fact that he got in the game and he’s the starter this week, nor is it the fact that he nearly led what would have been a major comeback.  It is the fact that he looked like the Falcons Michael Vick when he got in last week, an electrifying player.  Last week his SPx sold for $45, this week one sold for $80.

7.  Marcus Lattimore 2010 Razor Army All America

Lattimore

Comments: Marcus is the “diaper dandy” of this year’s college football season so far.  He put up an incredible performance against Georgia.  As a collector who loves college sports, the frustration is always – there is nothing to collect.  Ah but wait, Marcus is in the Razor Army All America product.  He has autos sure but it is this base cards, which previously weren’t selling at all and now moved to $1.50 ea that saw the biggest bump.

8. Dexter McCluster 2010 Topps Auto RC /90

McCluster

Comments: On his first punt-return of the year, Dexter takes it 94 yards to the house.  As a result, these Topps Auto RCs jump up from $70 to $125!

9. Buster Posey2008 Bowman Chrome Draft Auto RC

Posey

Comments: If you extrapolate Buster’s stats to 162 games you have: .325 BA 199 hits 24 HRs 106 RBIs.  That is just an incredible pace for a rookie to be on.  The 2008 Chrome Draft auto class also continues to be studly with Buster leading the way.  These autos moved up from $80 to over $100 this past week.

10. 2010 UD College Sweet Spot Autos

Suh

Comments: It seems like opinions are mixed on this product, I’ve heard “selling great” and I’ve heard “steaming hot pile.”  After doing so more research on eBay I noticed that the college teams with huge followings are the ones selling the best – whether the player is so great or not.  I have to imagine a card like the one above is going to be something that appeals to many Suh/Nebraska fans.

Uh oh: The #1 on last week’s hot list, Danny Espinosa, may have broke the law of gravity by crashing back to earth with an acceleration of more than 9.8 m/s^2.  The same prime cuts card that sold for $32 on September 7th sold for $3.25 on September 15th.  Ouch.
