Wednesday Weekly; July 11, 2012

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July holiday. I apologize for not having a Wednesday Weekly up then. I was busy with family and friends that came in from out of town. I was going to post one later in the week, but then it wouldn’t have been Wednesday Weekly.

This week is about a topic that is very near and dear to me. My wife and I are unable to have children of our own, but we still enjoy doing things for kids. A few months back, we contacted out local Children’s Hospital (Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis) and asked them if they accepted sports cards as donations for the kids. They said yes, so we took just over 3,000 cards up to donate. It’s great because the kids enjoy the cards, hopefully it gets some of them interested in collecting, and it allows me to get rid of everything I don’t collect. Instead of throwing it away or listing the cards for sale, we can give them to the children.

After checking with Gilmore and getting the okay, I made a post about how my wife and I were accepting donations to take to the hospital. There was a solid response and I cannot thank the board members who participated enough. We dropped off the cards this morning. All in all, there were just over 23,000 cards. You read that right, 23,000+ plus (twenty three thousand!). We knew that we could count on the amazing members of FCB to come through and help out. There are so many generous people on the board that it is amazing. Besides my wife and I, Ashburn Alley, peterose4hof, and emarc27 sent in donations. I believe another member or two did as well, but I cannot remember their screen names at the moment. I apologize if your name isn’t on the list, it is a complete accidental oversight.

The hospital was amazed by the sheer amount of cards that were brought in. They said that the children love anything sports related and that they are going to have a blast with all of these cards. I am going to continue running the donation, so if you are interested, please post in this thread or send me a PM on the board (muskiesfan). The next donation I would like to take in December. If you would like to contribute, you have between now and Thanksgiving to ship the cards out to me. However, you do not have to just send cards. Feel free to gift cards, toys, stuffed animals, or any other sports related items (clothing, blankets, etc). Here is a wish list from the hospital as well.

If you do not want to send items, please contact your local children’s hospital and see if they accept donations. Thank you to the members who have already participated and to all of those who plan on participating this time around. It means a lot to the children.
