FCB Weekly Hotlist – January 28th 2011 Edition

FCB Weekly Hot List

1. Daniel Hudson 2010 Bowman Sterling Autos

Hudson

Comments: A week ago, these were selling for $3, now they are selling for $15.  Unlike many other hot listers who have easily identifiable events which lead to their prices rising, Hudson didn’t do anything spectacular this last week to cause this, instead, its likely a gradual process of people realizing that he pitched very well last year and will be a rotation mainstay this year.

2. B.J. Raji 2009 Playoff Contender Auto Rookies

Raji

Comments: That’s a large man and when large men have interception return for touchdowns in the playoffs it gets noticed.  Raji’s Contenders autos jumped from about $6 to about $12.

3. Mike Trout 2009 Rookie Autos

Trout

Comments: Here’s the thing, when you are ranked ahead of Bryce Harper in the overall top prospect rankings, it is noteworthy.  Trout’s cards are doing what many top prospects’ cards do in the offseason, gradually heat up to the point of insanity pre-Spring Training.  Auto prices are up about 25% across the board for Trout.

4. 2010 Bowman Sterling Black Refractor USA Autos /25

Springer

Comments: These snazzy cards are selling extremely well, George Springer and Jackie Bradley Jr. moved up past $200 this week.  There has been a mixed reaction to what Topps has done with the USA cards but there is no doubt they hit it out of the park with these Black Refractor Autos.

5. Blake Griffin Auto Rookies

Griffin

Comments: Similar to when you see one of his super acrobatic dunks on SportsCenter and you aren’t surprised, you probably aren’t surprised to see Blake on this list either.  If it is a card and its from 2009-10 and has Blake on it, its hot.

6. Aaron Rodgers 2005 Playoff Contenders Auto

rodgers

Comments: Last week the card above sold for $750, this week it sold for $1k.  Heck, base Topps Chromes sell for $20-$30, he’s a Packer and he’s going to the Super Bowl, if he wins, watch out!

7. Clay Mathews 2009 Rookie Cards

mathews

Comments: Like his teammate above, Clay’s cards continue to heat up as the big game draws near.  Even Clay’s base Topps cards are selling for $3-$4 now, which is significant, no one’s base Topps cards sell that well.

8. Jrue Holiday National Treasures Autos

Holiday

Comments: Jrue’s having a very good second year and anyone playing remotely well with a National Treasures auto is going to see a price move up.  A premium patch /99 sold for $500 this week and even the lesser patches are approaching $200.

9. Derrick Rose 2008-09 Chrome Rookies

rose

Comments: Base chromes, both Bowman and Topps issues blew past $20 this week, not many players’ cards make it that far – Durant, James and just a handful of others come to mind.

10. Bryce Harper

harper

Comments: Usually when I mention a player, I mention a specific card.  With Bryce, it doesn’t matter whether its his USA Chrome from 2010 Bowman w/Chrome, his USA cards, any of his limited autographs or even some knock-off card.  This guy has all the hype and people are lining up to buy it.

Good stuff guys! Hudson is so screwy! I can’t wrap my head around it.

On Danny Hudson, there’s seriously a void of 2009 Sterling, so if you have some, I’d be tossing it up.

I’m of the belief that Best Offer is generally the best idea of *actual* price. You can’t look at it and expect similar prices, but an eBay auction will always tell you what the second highest guy was willing to pay. An eBay best offer will give you an idea of what the highest bidder was willing to pay.

I still agree with you guys that Strasburg doesn’t belong on the list, unless you’re going to give him a permanent spot alongside blake griffin and taylor hall.

The list would get pretty boring and repetitive if you just listed the same guys week in and week out…
